Measurements
Best place to begin is at the beginning. Measurements, what is physics and how does engineering connect is where we will start the year. In physics and engineering failing is a common notion. The idea that no design or experiment is perfect the first time around and it made need a second, fourth or tenth revision is often overlooked. We will begin with looking at the importance of failure from the scientist and engineering mindset. We learn how to fail forward as physicists and engineers. Below are the notes, slides and articles to start off the year!
We begin the year with creating a banner that represents our 9th grade team. Britt and I began the idea of welcoming 9th graders to high school our new team and what does it mean to be a team. How do we go from individual ideas about a team to a united idea every person had a part in creating? We start with words and ideals, narrowing down ideas through gallery walks. Then I take the students into introductory carpentry, woodworking and engineering concepts to create scale engineering drawings on printer paper to large scale 8' x 8' plywood sheets.
